  1. I just recently bought a new Sony WEGA TV, and it has support for component video. This type of video is new to me, as I have never seen it before. My question is, is it worth spending $100 for a new DVD player that supports component video (I currently use an APEX) and another $40 for component video cables just to watch my DVDs with component video? Is it really that big of a quality difference between what I use now (S-Video) to component video?

  2. The improvement is subtle. The area compoent video can do well, is black - which is tough to reproduce in color TV. If you switch off your DVD player with component Video, your TV shows black. If you switch off you DVD player with S-video, your TV shows grayish black.

I was watching the opening of "Harry Potter" and saw how dark and smoking background, make enough different in VCD vs DVD, and component vs s-video.

THX encoded movie is pretty critical about "BLACK". See your "monster Inc DVD, setup stuff".

You can buy the component video cables at target at $13.00. Er, it is just me, I can't see the different in cable.

It is Xmas shopping time, get a deal, and enjoy it.

    Oh, really? Read this:

As Churchill famously predicted when Chamberlain returned from Munich proclaiming peace in his time: "You were given the choice between war and dishonor. You chose dishonor, and you will have war."

  5. That's a very interesting website. However, those pictures were taken with a digital camera held up close to the screen. Certainly, I won't be watching a movie from this distance. Are there any websites that show differences between the various connections for movies in action from far away? Again, I don't want to spend so much extra money for a feature that's not even that noticeable.

Seen them at Wal-mart for $20+

Though your TV is Nice, I think it does not have Progressive scan support?

Using the Progressive option on a capable DVD player the
    Component Cable is a must.
