program restarted pc

I wonder if someone can give me advise on DVDX, I am trying to backup my dvd's which the first couple were successful, but now doesnt seem to work, I've tried Dvdx 1.8 and Dvdx 2.0, it gets a quarter of the way into converting dvd to mpeg when my computer system suddenly restarts, I am using Winxp with 128mb, can anyone give me a pointer on how to sort this out, or even another backup program which is as quick and easy as Dvdx seemed.

1) reboot your computer right before you're about to do the encode. also, ctrl-alt-del and remove all proggies except for systray...

then try to encode

2) dvd2svcd is another all-in-one proggie that seems to be better than dvdx
