ok, I've been reading this forum for about a year now, but until recently I was reading it as a PC user. I had gotten pretty efficient at making fairly high quality one disc VCDs (all legal backups of my DVDs of course), but I recently got rid of the PC and got a mac. After lots of research and trial and error I'm able to make a decent enough VCD on 2 discs but for the life of me can't figure out how to make Toast burn more than the 80 minute limit on one disc. I just want to be able to fit a whole movie on one disc..I don't care about losing quality just as long as it fits. I'm sure there is some easy way that I'm just missing, and I have sifted through hundreds of pages of posts trying to find an answer but to no avail. Can someone help me? FYI here is how I've been doing it...
Rip DVD VOB with OSeX
Seperate VOB in M2V and an Mp3
Convert M2V to Mpeg 4 in Media Pipe
Add scaled audio to Mpeg-4 in Quicktime 5 Pro
Drop resulting file into Toast Video CD window
Any help on a different strategy would be greatly appreciated...the way I'm doing it seems awfully round-about and it takes a good 13-14 hours from start to finish...isn't there a better way? on my PC I could do it in half the steps and in less than 6 hours.
Thanks in Advance,
Josh

This may a bit off topic but I just wanted to relate how I rip my DVDs.

The whole process takes about 4 hours if there are alot of Special Features. Normally though it usually takes 3 if it's just the movie.

did you happen to notice that he said he SWITCHED to mac and doesnt have a pc anymore? what help would that be to him? I mean its one thing that these posts when viewed as new posts dont directly appear to be associated with a mac forum, so people get confused and post replies, but AT LEAST PLEASE read the entire message to realize he is asking for a MACINTOSH solution.

Yeah, I did notice hence my saying it was OFF topic.

I have 2 things to ask you:
1) How did you fit a 90 min to a 120 min movie onto 1 vcd using toast. Sice toast has a limit of only 70 min.
2) I have a website which should be updated soon. I am trying for the 1 vcd method.

I never have been able to do it with toast...that's my problem, I always have to split the file in 2 parts because it says the movie is too long to fit on one CD, even though there is plenty of room (information wise) on it. I'm experimenting with ffmpegx right now hoping I can do it that way. Just thought someone here could save me some trial and error encoding time with a simple solution I could use. I know there are options on ffmpegx to experiment with lower CBRs to get the size down and then output as bin/cue and burn a multi-track disc on toast...anybody know of another way? If this way works for me I'll put together an idiots guide to One Disc VCDs for everybody out there like me who is lost in a sea of options.

anyways
Futureman - if you want to use ffmpegx you just want to choose 1 cd in the bitrate calculator and then choose the cd size you want, as long as you put in the movie length you will get the necessary bitrate to fit the VCD on one cd. You can choose one of the presets at the bottom if you so desire. I don't know if the quality will be what you would like it to be (i cant imagine a full length dvd onto TWO vcds being that spectacular, let alone one)As below, so above and beyond, I imagine
