  1. So I bought a Sony DRU500a dvd writer a couple of days ago.

The guy in the shop gave me 10 free dvd-r, which were CHOICE dvd-r
    4.7GB, 2x, Generation 3 (with a blue top).

My drive wouldnt read half the discs, I inserted the discs, and it would spit them out, asking for blank media.

3 of the discs caused errors with Nero, half way through burning.

2 managed to burn ok, (but would not play in my pioneer dvd player - I have since found it is because I used NERO to burn)

Needless to say I was much disgruntled.

The Sony +RW disc that came with the writer was a bit bitter. It was recognised quickly, and burnt ok. I used NERO, Recordmax, and Gear (I burnt the VIDEO_TS and AUDIO_TS as a data dvd), but none would play
    in my dvd player.

I finally created an image file with imgtools, and burnt this to the SONY +RW using dvd-decrypter, and EUREKA! It finally worked in my dvd player! (pioneer dv350).

Can anyone explain the strange goings-on with the media / software, which created so many different results?

I have since ordered a Pack of 10 DATASAFE RITEK (Same dye as Traxdata) Generation 3 4.7GB DVD-R disc from:

I really hope they work in both my sony dru500a and my pioneer dv350.

If anyone can offer me any advice as to which media works PERFECTLY with both the above, I would be most grateful.

    Though any advice is appreciated.[/url]
