I'm trying to capture AVI in Virtualdub but even with the framerate set at 25fps it still only captures at 10-15fps.
I've tried a few different compressions including divx4, MJPEG, and Huffy but the same result. it seems to look ok when I do "Test Video capture" but when I try a live one, the frame rates drop right off. I can't think what it could be? I've got all the latest drivers for my TV card and have recently doubled the amount of RAM as well.
I'm only capturing and 352x240 resolution as well.
My system;
Hauppage WinTV
30gb HD 7200rpm
WinXP
512mb ram
1.1ghz Athlon

You may have tried different video codecs but what about audio? I found that my copy of VDub was set to MP3 audio when I changed it to PCM the framerate doubled.

I've been using a really low PCM and Ive tried capturing no audio but it doesnt make any difference

Make sure DMA is enabled on your hard drive.
Also, very noisy captures will result in dropped frames no matter how fast your computer is. Try it with a pure source. Are you capping analog cable/ANT ? -
the Hard disk is DMA enabled and recently DeFragged as well.
Yeah, the input is coming through the RF in port/TV Card Tuner
