  1. Hi,

I got a new dvd burner but have not yet got it to burn sucessfully. WinXP recognizes the drive and lists it as a DVD/CD-RW drive. Whether I place a blank CD-R, DVD+RW or DVD+R disc in the slot. the description on my computer switched to CD-RW even with DVD's. After taking the blank out, it reverts back to DVD/CD-RW. Is this normal? How do I tell if the drive is working? What S/W shall I use?

    Thanks,
    Mike

The drive is a DVD+R, +RW Ikebana brand. No conflicts appear in device mgr.

Hi. Ignore what the drive is lablled as. Does your writing software recognise the disks as DVDR or RW. Does it recognise the capacity of the DVD disks.

When I first got my drive I had a few problems. My own failure to understand a few things. The bundled authoring software would write to the DVD disks no problem, but NERO would not recognise it, even though it was supplied with the drive. Then in despair almost I tried the NERO wizard and all of s sudden, there was DVD format, switched to that, and I had all the options no problem.

Clonecd recognises the drive for CDR, WINONCD 5 does but only after installing updates.

    Hope this helps.
