  1. Ok Chritmas is coming and I'm trying to help Mrs. Claus find the right portable player for Santa

I'm looking for a portable vcd player that can run on batteries. Like Napa and if someone knows of a player with a screen thats a possibility too.

I've also been looking around at portable dvd players. Like at walmart $199 (what happened to the cheaper potable apex players).

I'd like opinions because I've read mixed reviews about some player

    Thanks in advance

I have a Panasonic Portable, model #DVD-LV60 with a 5+" wide format screen. I plays DVD, VCD (not SVCD), audioCD and even MP3s. I ahve beenv ery happy with mine. I picked it up as an open box special. No manual etc. It has audio/video in and out so it can be used as a display/monitor for other sources. You can also use the outputs like it was a main palyer adn feed the video to a big screen monitor and even the digital audio can be fed to your massive home theatre system.

I also have a NAPA audio/video CD player. No screen adn will NOT even play VideoCDs on battery power. You MUST USE an external power source (like teh ac adapter) for it to play a VideoCD. Sounds strange but it is true, I know I tried it! No screen on the NAPA so you will ahve to use a display, more cables, power etc. to view a videoCD on a NAPA. The napa is fine for what it is but I prefer the Panasonice DVD portable any day!

  5. hi! yes, i have an initial protable from walmart and i can say that i'm very happy with it! it's played everything that i've thrown at it so far: dvd+r, dvd+rw, vcd, svcd, xvcd, audio cd, cdrw's[vcd], cdr's[vcd]. it has good picture quality! the only gripes i have are: to charge the battery you have to mess with some wires and you cant use the player and charge at the same time. the battery does seem to last a long time. and second: the audio/video out's are on 2 seperate cables. which can be a pain. but these few gripes dont add up to much and for $197 you cant beat it. and it doesnt weigh much. just a little bigger than a portable audio cd player. i would definetly recommend it!

  6. thanks music man

I am glad to hear that the player does so well

you should make a post in the dvd player compatability page no one has done it for any initial player yet.

hey what do you mean about the audio and video cables seprately aren't they always that way?

BTW I might be getting the 8' screen. That is if Mrs. Claus lets me spend the extra money for the upgrade.

    Thanks

  7. hi! well, i mean that you have a seperate plug[1/8" to rca] for audio and one for video[1/8" to rca]. i understand why its like that though because the audio is a stereo plug and there isnt any contacts left for the video signal. they could have used a 'din' type connector to rca for audio and video on one plug. like i said 'small beefs!'. its a wonderful player with wonderful picture quality and i can guarantee that if you get one everyone who see's it shall want one! people are just fascinated by these things! and i should explain how the battery charging works: the ac adapter plugs into a small rectagular piece that is the charger and the battery plugs into that. when the battery is charged, the battery connectes to the back of the player and then you plug it into the player. did that make sense?
i am going to put it in the compatibilty section but i am very new here so im still learning the site...
