DVD to avi. Hope this is the right place...

...but I did look at the other forums, and this was the closest thing to an appropriate one I could find. All I am interested in is ending up with a DVD rip that will convert to uncompressed .avi files, to be edited in Premiere. I don't care how large they are.

Believe it or not, there is a program called DVD2AVI. There is a link to it in the tools section of this site. It goes here http://www.divx-digest.com/software/dvd2avi.html .

Under the file menu just open your vob files. You can then preview it, mark a time line for processing, and setup extract options. Finally I believe you can then just "save avi" from the file menu.

Warning: These instructions were off the top of my head, but I imagine if you can use premier you can use this.

You say you don't care how large they are. I just hope you have the slightest idea of about how big a DVD in uncompressed AVI will be. I think you'll be quite amazed...

Nar man, just use the Huffy codec, it's a losless codec and gives quite good compression.

when they have larger storage media, I hope that they use this codec to compress DVD's with as it will give such a beutiful picture quality :) that and LPCM audio, cos AC3 and DTS suck crap!

Huffyuv is not exactly lossless... The Black Magic Codec is great tho. As far as compression goes... Huffyuv isn't the best for that.... And it's probably not quite the best thing to use for DVD's and such instead of mpeg2. If you find AC3 and DTS suck so bad, then what about pro logic and plain stereo...? Both sound pretty good with a half decent home theater. Anyways, it's much better than the others. Sure, you can whine about it too, just like I could for DVD's aren't like 1600x900 60fps RGB24 at 1gigb/s... Besides, if you want to be a quality freak, might as well remove your VCD ad there at the bottom of your post. You just can't say "AC3 and DTS suck", look pro-VCD and be taken very seriously... Diss the good, and stick to the ugly. At the very least, DVD is thousands of times better than VCDs.

Believe it or not, there is a program called DVD2AVI.
