  1. Anyone know if you can shrink a SVCD to fit on at least 2 disc. I just did Insomnia, the 1st part to VCD and the 2nd part to SVCD. Unfortunately the second part about 50 minutes long inflated to over 1GB. I love the quality of SVCD and wonder if you can setup DVDx to not make the output file so big, or can you do it in smartripper? I would appreciate the help.

  2. lower the filesize, lower the quality...

so basically, you can lower the bitrate....but then, you should use 2 pass VBR

also, make sure you set motion search accuracy to high quality (slow) at all times...don't set it at any lower quality setting

  3. Is there a 2 pass VBR in DVDx or is that only in the TMPGEnc program? Thanks for the response by the way...

  4. i'm not too familar with that proggie, but i don't think it has an encoder built-in. doesn't it use tmpgenc as an encoder??

i thought dvdx was just a frontend, but i could be mistaken

  5. DVDx encodes directly from DVD VOB files ripped from smart ripper. There is no setting for VBR, although I can change the bit rate size to whatever size I want. Do you have to use 2 pass VBR on TMPGEnc? It takes alot longer to encode DIVX >> SVCD (the analyzing portion of it adds time). I kept it on constant BR under the menu you told me to and changed the CBR to fit on one CD on the next screen where it tells me to select the output file. It seems to work ok but I had an audio lag. I didn't however strip the audio with Virtual Dub. Trying it right now with MIB II. Let you know how it turns out...Thanks

  6. divx??? i'm not familar with divx at all...

but in any case, u should try another proggie then. i personally use smartripper->dvd2avi->tmpgenc...but if u want an all-in-one proggie, try dvd2svcd....

also, don't ever use constant bitrate unless you're trying to make a standard compliant VCD...for SVCD, always use VBR...constant bitrate has horrible bitrate allocation...VBR always gives better quality for the same filesize...

hi, if u want a svcd on 2 discs u give away a lot of guality, the best is to put it on 3, cause a normal svcd is about 30 minutes per disc, if u want it on only 2 discs it get's up to 50-60 minutes so u have lower the bitrate and quality so much it's simular to just a vcd and we don't want that right? and what poopyhead allready said, there's an encoding in tmpgenc... let me know if virtual dub works with u cause it never worked with me, i hate that program,, ciao

  8. Well, actually,if you are using 2 cd's,which capacity is 80 minutes each, and your movie is about 100 minutes long, the average bitrate you can use is about 2000 kbs, which is much much better than vcd.And if you use multipass vbr,the quality is good enough for most purposes.

wel 'actually' when u use 2 discs, 80 minutes each, the vbr per disc is 1020 kps and pretty much incompattible! if the movie isn't longer than 110 minutes you can put it on 2, 55 minutes long svcd''s so the vbr is 1600 kbs per disc and thats's ok
    ciao

a 100min movie can be stored on 2, '700mb' cd's i think ricardo ment that, then ur vbr is 1950 and very much compattible...so sorry, mine was based on 650mb discs

Just a suggestion - I use DVD2SVCD for conversion and 99 minute CDs with Nero to burn. I get a good bitrate, good quality video and everything on 2 discs. Just adjust the DVD2SVCD bitrate/time to the appropriate setting. No problems so far.

  12. All you guys are correct. The smaller the size bitrate, the worse the quality. Triple xXx - Using Virtual Dub worked for me. I just open the video file do the usual conversion in the audio 48HZ - 44HZ and save it as a wav. There is a new post on the first page of this site that does it a little different, but I think the output is the same. Did it with MIB II and the audio was perfectly in sync. I used 1900kb/s and got excellent quality on 2 disc. The movie is only 1hr 20m long though. Thanks for all your comments. Soon I will be able to help someone else with all this crap and then it will change to something else!!! LATER
