in terms of hours and minutes, is there a maximum running time for a mpeg 2 file burnt to DVD+R? Does it purely depend on the size of the file?
For example could I burn a movie that is 2.5 hours long onto one disk?

Yes you can - you might have to encode it to a low bit rate but it is possible.
The trade-off: lower bitrates mean lower picture quality. So you are trading off quality for playing time.Panasonic DMR-ES45VS, keep those discs a burnin' -
