version: 0.2: Total revamp of the interface layout, removed the options panel for a tabbed window in the main window instead. The fundamental options are all still the same, mostly just aesthetic changes in this version. Only major feature addition is the ability to deinterlace with yuvdenoise instead of yuvscaler (yuvdenoise works MUCH better to deinterlace) also added fast mode denoise (will add ability to tweak denoise functions later) if you are using deinterlace and you don't the conversion to go SIGNIFICANTLY slower and the material is fairly low noise (most dvd material obviously doesn't have any noise) then you will want to use fast mode denoise in addition to the deinterlace function. I haven't done extensive testing on this version yet so it could be buggy, any bug reports will be helpful.

as promised i WILL change the decoder/encoder for the ac3-mp2 conversion and will additionally make more input audio formats compatible in the next version or two.. i spent a lot of time debugging and changing the interface and that took away all my time to change any of the audio decoding

Hi, I was just playing with AfroPic 0.2. It just kept on runing (I stoped it after 24 hours). By the way, the .vob file is over 4G in size. Is it suppose to be that long for a file > 4G? I then tried to do .vob to SVCD and still the same result.
I remember that with AfroPic 0.12 and I was able to get a VCD mpeg file within 5 hours. But that was with a .vob file < 4G. When I go home tonight, I'll use AfroPic 0.12 and see if I can get it to work on the same .vob file.

  3. Bilestyle, whenever I try to convert a DVD-->SVCD with Afropic I keep getting the same error. What am I doing wrong?

it takes ALOT longer if the vob is over 4 gigs.. it has to demux then remux into 4 gig segments encode each segment seperately then join them due to a 4 gig limit bug in qt decoding... if u dont do it that way the full vob will not encode, it will lock up at a certain frame and encode it for the rest of hte proces.... nothin i can do to speed up the over 4 gig process unfortunately ... wont be any different in 0.1.2

SCB - try just opening the terminal and typing "mpgtx -h" and tell me what your output is.. it seems like mpgtx just doesnt want to work for some odd reason.. tell me what settings you are using and ill try and replicate the problem if i can..if that does recieve a reply from the terminal then ill ask u to check something else.. but let me know if the terminal says unknown command or prints out commands..

  6. Typed in mpgtx -h and I got "command not found". I tried installing the binaries for 0.2 but it gave me an error saying that there was a newer version that was already installed and that I couldn't install over them. Strange error because I know I have the older version installed. Maybe the problem has to do with the version numbers? The new binaries are 0.2 where as the old ones are read as 1.1.

The settings I've been using in 1.1 are like this:

    Input format: program string
    Mode: svcd
    Bitrate: 2500
    Multiplex
    Encode Audio
    Input file: over 4 GB - Demux/Remux

Thanks for explanations. Anyways, I have the older version, 0.1.2, and I am trying to do the convertion with the same .vob again because I got the exact same error messages as SBC. The binaries installation also didn't work with version 0.2. Same error messages as SBC again.

i apologize.. that is probably the reason for the error... now why mpgtx doesnt install is totally beyond me.. it was in all the binary packages including the first one... so it SHOULD be there already the only new binary i added to the package was yuvdenoise.. but either way i repacked the package as 1.2 so it SHOULD work if the version number was the issue... let me know. 9. Cool. Works great now. This is an awesome all in one solution. Can you tell me what the best settings would be to go from a DVD--->XSVCD? Basically I want to have the highest quality SVCD I can get squeezed onto two CD's. Thanks for the great app.

    bilestyle,
Now the binary pacakage installs fine. But I still get the same messages when doing .vob to SVCD.

The settings in AfroPic 0.1.2 are:

    Input format: program string
    auto size: NTSC SVCD
    Mode: SVCD
    Bitrate: 2500
    force segment
    795MB
    Multiplex
    Encode Audio
    Input file: over 4 GB - Demux/Remux

And I typed in mpgtx -h in terminal and it shows that I have mpgtx installed.

changwei - okay now a few things about your settings.

    1) demux then remux option only applies for under 4 gig material, over 4 gig it demuxes then remuxes automatically

    2) if you have a vob that is bigger than 4 gigs its more efficient to rip as elementary streams in osex instead of program streams (select Elem. Streams instead of Prog. Streams in the FMT menu)

reason being is in order to process the files bigger than 4 gigs (due to a bug in quicktime, OR the mpeg-2 component im not sure where the problem EXACTLY lies) but when you input a vob file it needs to demultiplex and then remultiplex as 4 gig segments, then it encodes one after another and so on..... if you input elementary streams (m2v and ac3) it skips the demux step and goes straight to muxing in 4 gig segments... since bbdmux isnt the fastest demuxing program (but its the only one i've gotten to personally work with rippin out ac3 streams) that demux step takes a bit of unnessesary time up...but elementary stream input is ONLY faster for bigger than 4 gigs conversions, otherwise a program stream is still faster.

also, since i do all my testing of files bigger than 4 gigs in the elem. stream settings in AfroPic while redesigning i might have messed something up in the program stream conversion for over 4 gigs... thats only a MAYBE though, im not really certain without seeing your full terminal output. Email me and we'll discuss the problem further

  12. I am having a very similar problem. I rip a DVD as elementary streams, choose them in AfroPic, and select settings for SVCD. The terminal output shows an error early on:

    Code:
**ERROR: [mpeg2enc] Could not read YUV4MPEG2 header: system error (failed read/write)!
    ## Component Manager: attempting to find symbols in a component alias of type (regR/carP/x!bt)

temp1 is not a valid mpeg file
rm: temp1: No such file or directory
rm: temp2: No such file or directory
After this, the audio is decoded/encoded successfully to an mp2, but then more errors are received when it seemingly can't mplex the audio and video (probably because the video was never created):

    Code:

hmmmmmmm, did you choose anymore options? like deinterlace or anything like that? email me your full terminal ouput and ill see if i can find anything that looks wrong.. the mpeg2enc error i see MIGHT be the problem, possibly you tried to install the binaries with 0.2 instead of 0.2r2, there was a new binary installed with 0.2 and if you used 0.1.2 b4 the installer version number was accidentaly larger then the new one (0.2) and was fixed in 0.2r2, b/c if u checked off deinterlace or fast mode denoise it uses yuvdenoise... so MAYBE that could be a problem.. i'd like to see the full output, but ill most likely need to see the imbedded script-- if that is the case ill ask you for it after seeing the full output.. unless i answered the question already in this post.

  14. bilestyle,

I'm emailing you my term output and settings. I ran AfroPic again,
the errors are different this time and occurred later in the process.
This time I ended up with 2 files - a 1.44GB muxed mpeg2 video file
(with audio) at 480x270 pixels and 30fps, and a matching mp2 audio
file. When I play the muxed mpeg2 file in quicktime or vlc, it stays in
sync, but about 1/2 through the video starts getting choppy and stays
that way through the end. I looked at the source elementary stream
video file and it never gets choppy.

    Check your email for details.

okay here is ONE thing to try type this in your terminal:

    sudo chmod 755 /usr/bin/mpeg2enc

    after that

    yuvdenoise -h

(if you are using the deinterlace or fast mode denoise switch)

let me know what you get..
As below, so above and beyond, I imagine
drawn outside the lines of reason.
Push the envelope. Watch it bend.

Over thinking, over analyzing separates the body from the mind. Withering my intuition leaving all these opportunities behind.

    bilestyle...
First of all... fantastic application, I just love it.
    Second of all... hellllp!!!
I'm also getting the YUV4MPEG2 error... (with the same error messages others are reporting).
I'm just practicing with a DVD (since I don't want to import a bunch of footage from my videocam) and I ripped it as elementary streams in chapters.
The DVD in question is Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure (Wyld! Stallyns! Reer, Reer, Reer).
The first chapter (the intro) encodes and muxes just fine, with no problems at all, but when I go to encode the second chapter I get the error I mentioned above.
    I'm using the basic settings:
    Decoding:
    Autosize: NTSC SVCD
    Aspect: 16:9 (it's widescreen)
    Framerate: 29.97

    Encoding:
    Default Settings

    Audio/Mplex:
    Default Settings

    General Options:
    Default settings
(since I ripped it in chapters, the largest chunk is around 350MB)

I haven't tried ripping the DVD as one large track, but I did try re-ripping it as program streams and after demuxing chapter 2 I run into the same problem.

Since I really have no clue what's going on under the hood, I don't know what to check.
Thanks again for a great app... I've been recommending it to everyone... much more intuitive than FFMpeg (no offense major... it's great in it's own right... just a bit more confusing for the n00b... like me).
