Seems like a dumb question, but I was going to burn my movies in .avi format and most are too big for one CD. Can I zip them and then burn them? Seems like I read somewhere that zipping video may not work.
TIA

If you want to reduce them in size to fit on 1 CD you need to reencode them with a lower bitrate, zipping them will not reduce their size.

AVI(DivX) is a heavily compressed format already so zipping them wont make much difference at all. Also have you ever zipped a 600 + meg file ? it takes forever and then everytime you want to watch it you need to unzip it which takes just as long. In the end its really not worth it.
