is this normal for it to be ripping at 2x? i use DVD Decrypter..
my first DVD burner so just wondering if this is normal. seems slow since the read speed is 12x dvd speed

Alot of drives are fixed at 2x when reading dual layers DVD.
No way around it.
My philips DVDRW228 rip speed tops out at 7x -
My old Toshiba rips at 9x.. you see, in the last year, most of the major manufacturers have capped their PC DVD products to read/rip at 2x for movies.. anything built before 2002 probably is ok, it's not something that's widely known....
