    Hi,
I have a two-part movie. Two VCD (.mpg) files.
I have the subtitles for the movie in the same folder.
I know how to add subtitles to a one-part movie, but two parts makes it more difficult.

Even more difficult is that for example, the movie length is 10,000 frames long. Part one is from 1-5,000 frames, and part two is from 4,900-10,000 frames.

How would I add the subtitles to this movie? Join the two parts? If join, how would I join them if they are not cut at the same frame point?

    Tough one ah?

    Thanks in advance!

    P.S.
I don't know how long the movie really is in frame terms. Nor do I know how long is each of the two parts. I just gave it as an example because when I viewed part two of the movie, it started in a place a few seconds before the part one ended.

    Hey,

I'm not an expert or anything, but here's a simple idea.

Why don't u join the two MPEGs (or get the original one if u've splitted them in order to burn two CDs), then add the subtitles to the whole thing, and when encoding the final MPEG for the VCD u do the cut.

TMPEGEnc does it easily, or u could try compressing the video a bit so it would fit in one CD.

I think both ideas would work fine.

cdechery, I think you didn't understand my post completely. Like I said before, part two of the movie I have starts a few seconds earlier then where part one ended. So in fact, if I'll merge the two parts together, somewhere in the middle I'll get a 5 second repeat of the same 5 seconds of the movie. So joining them isn't much of an option, unless there is a way that I'm not aware of

    Any other ideas?

No, I actually understood that too...

I never joined two videos to know for sure... but I'm pretty sure that in a joining tool u have the option to do it wherever (at any given frame) u want...

otherwise, digitally editting movies would become impossible, don't u think?

U just have to find the right tool... probably right here.

I think cdechery was offering good advice. All you have to do is open the files in an editing program and view each frame by frame until you find exactly where they begin to overlap and make a cut at that point to either clip, then merge them together. There are many programs that can do this: TMPGEnc, Virtualdub (I'm pretty sure), or any editing program such as Ulead VideoStudio, Premiere, etc.

  7. the software "subtitle workshop" splits and ads subtitles.

you can then edit (sync) with other software. subtitle workshop does that, you can use "subsync". when i edit subtitles, i watch the image/sound with subsync and edit with subtitle workshop. i just got used to that.

i think you can find all of this in the tools section. you can find subsync (if not in the tools section) here: http://www.legendas.com.br/download.php?cat=5&cat_des=Utilitarios%20p/%20Legenda
