  1. I am wanting to buy a DVD changer to replace my current DVD player and
CD player. I want to keep the price under $350, and found the
following units with lots of features (including DVD-A and MP3
    capability):

    JVC XV-FA900BK
    -Digital Direct progressive scan
    -7 disc changer
    Kenwood DV-6050
    -Faroudja progressive scan
    -5 disc changer
    Panasonic DVD-CP72K
    -reportedly Faroudja progressive scan
    -5 disc changer
    Yamaha DVD-C920
    -progressive scan (dunno type)
    -5 disc changer

I also looked at the Sony DVP-NC655P/B, Onkyo DV-CP5000, and Toshiba SD-3815, but none of them is DVD-A capable (not too big a deal,
    however).

Between these units (including the non DVD-A units), what is the best
buy for the money? Which will offer the best sound, video,
reliability, etc., for my dollar? Is any one markedly better than the
others? All these units are reasonably priced except the Yamaha,
which (according to the Yamaha website) has an MSRP of $399, but I
have been unable to find it for under MSRP, putting it out of my price
    range.

    Thanks for the help!

  2. I just brought the Sony 5 disc dvd changer. Model DVP NC615. You can check out the specs on Sony's website and check out the comments here in the dvd players section. It seems like a solid player and does seem to play most formats. It is not a progressive scan player, but it fairly reasonablely priced. I got it for $279 Cdn. The only drawback is that it doesn't play SVCDs. This was not an issue for me as I don't have an SVCD, and I guess I will not be making any to play on it.

Pioneer has a new 5 disc dvd changer. I forget the model number, but the feature set was the same as the Sony and it does play SVCDs and plays MP3s in random format, (the Sony does play MP3 too, just not random). I would have purchased it instead, it was $299 Cdn, but I had just bought the Sony online and didn't want the hassle of sending it back.
