  1. Hi I've got a Canopus DV Storm 2 which has S-Video and Component Inputs, and I use this to capture from TV and VHS Video recorder.

The problem I have is that when I connect up to my DVD player, the image is broken up and barely viewable.

Is this some aspect of the piracy prevention or simply me being stupid

Anyone else capturing directly from a DVD stream ?

    Many thanks in advance

  2. The broken images are being caused by macrovision, which is an anti-piracy mechanism.

  3. And there is nothing I can do about it ?

I guess if not I'll have to go back to ripping vob files

You could take a look around and see if there is any way to disable MacroVision - either some simple remote trick, or a firmware "upgrade" with MacroVision disabled.

  5. There might be a way around the macrovision, although I don't know how. The solution may be as easy as the ADVC-100 where you push a few buttons, something like a software/driver hack, or if all else fails, I assume that you could get around the macrovision with one of those anti-macrovision pass-through boxes that you can buy.

  6. Thanks for the tips guys. As far as I was aware I had DVD modified to play all regions and I thought also to remove macrovision.

The disc I was trying was just a DVD I had cut myself... is Macrovision something inherent in all Players ?

Or could it be something to do with Interlace/Non-Interlacing ?

  7. Macrovision on DVD is coded onto the disc. If you authored it yourself and had it removed when you ripped/authored it, then it really shouldn't be a problem - especially if your player has been modified to disable macrovision. Maybe I've been wrong the entire time and the issue isn't macrovision related at all...
