In my first try (after reading the guide found here) I tested a 45min file with some subtitle (anyone, I didn't really care, it was just a test) and TMPEGEnc was taking forever to encode it.

Like, 15mins passed an only 17% of the process done. I canceled it right there...

how come is that slow? Or is the problem with my computer?

    thanks

It seems to a problem with impatience of the user. If you are using a less than 800MHz computer is not that the speed you will convert at? Why not let TMPGEnc finish the job, and see if you like the product.

I also notice the projected time TMPGEnc claims it will take is sometimes exaggerated. Look at the total frame versus processed frames to determine where you really are in your task. Once it completely processes all your frames it almost immediately finishes the tasking, no matter how much more time it says it take.
    Hello.

  3. When it comes to mpegs,
just changing a small thing like adding
some text or a small resize is the same thing as a complete
    makeover.

That it takes 8hours to encode a 2hours movie with a 800mhz cpu
    is normal.

It's not a matter of impacience, it's just information.

I'm not in a hurry or anything... I have no trouble in letting it encode trough the night while I sleep, hehe.

I just wanted to know it this is normal, if it really takes that long or if there was something wrong with my computer.

I have a 950Mhz Duron with 256MB. It said it would take 2 hours to encode Monsters Inc (which is 1h32mins long) with subtitles.

    It's normal then? Ok... thanks!
