  1. Hi,

I am buying a new iMAC with DVD-R and I have a lot of vcd compatible mpg on my collection. I will need to burn DVD-R in PAL format and most of my videos are NTSC. I would like to know what are the basic software tools I must get to do this so I can burn my DVDs. Also, if I need to edit the videos (to add fade in fade out effect) what software shall I get? Is DVD Studio Pro any good?

I also have some NTSC vcds that i'd like to store in DVD (because they are live concerts in 2 disks and I'd like to store them in one). What shall i do? Shall I convert my the dat files to PAL on some software?

On a last note, I'd like to know if is it possible to burn video tracks on DVD without gap between them (no pause between tracks)? My dvd player is the Pioneer dv-444-s by the way.

Sorry for all the questions, but I'm new to dvd-r.

    Thanks!

  3. If you have a VCD you can not burn it in a DVD disk: they have different formats. I'm sorry.

The only way I know is to convert your VCD to CVD (China Video Disk). You can burn that mpeg files as DVD...of course, you will loose quality. Every time you convert a compressed file (as your vcd) to another compressed file (CVD, SVCD, DVD) you are loosing quality.

    Best regards

    Not true

DVD will accept VCD video specifications, you do not have to reencode the video, all you have to do is upsample the audio frequency from 44.1khz to 48khz.
