  1. Okay, I've been fooling around with mpeg2 captures lately in PowerVCR, because the quality is so much better than mpeg1.

However, when I open up the files in tmpgenc, it either refuses to open the file, or crashes (after I ended up finding a decent mpeg2 filter).

I'm assuming this is because powerVCR drops frames, and there is absolutely nothing I can do to stop this; I ALWAYS get dropped frames, even on my super-fast (WD special edition 8mb) defragmented harddrive.

Now, the ONLY way I've figured out how to get these mpeg2's into tmpgenc is to use DVD2AVI to create a d2v file that tmpgenc can use; but there is one HUGE problem; the sound is ALWAYS out of synch after I encode it...

I'm going to cry, this is really pissing me off; can someone help me figure out how to make DVD2AVI/tmpegenc write blank frames where those dropped frames are, instead of skipping over them?

    Thanks!

If TMPGEnc freezes or crashes when converting or you receive errors such as
    Unexpected decimal point calculation
Illegal floating decimal point calculation order
Try first to change the codec reader settings in TMPGEnc under Option->Environmental settings->VFAPI plug-in and right click on the DirectShow Multimedia File Reader and increase the priority to 1 or 2 and try open the video.
Or try to convert the audio to wav before converting(If you have problems extracting the audio using Virtualdub try use Goldwave or AVI2WAV).
Or try to repair the AVI,DivX or the ASF.
Or try to use avidefreezer to fix your video source.

the mpeg2 codec off the tools page is unsupported in latest versions of tmpgenc .. you need either of the following : ligos player or powerdvd ....

the elecard codec (also being unsupported) causes a lot of problems for tempgenc ...

when you open a mpeg file -- increase the mpeg2 decoder in VFAPI to +2
    and DirectShow to +1

    or whatever works as above

I've tried that; It either crashes, or says the file is not supported, randomly. The only codec I've ever gotten to work is using the Elecard mpeg2 codec, and that adds an annoying watermark, and randomly crashes

    BJ_M:

I've got PowerDVD, and when I play the files in it, they are perfect. But when I use the Cyberlink Mpeg2 codec, it either crashes, or says the file is unsupported...

    =(

  5. sigh; the cyberlink option in tmpeg has totally disappeared now; I've tried re-installing PowerDVD, but to no avail... what the heck.

you have to unreg the elecard codec ... i posted about this before ...

if you really want it all to work .. uninstall powerdvd , uninstall elecard ..

go to /common files/msm (something like that) and there will be the 3 codec for elecard ... run regsvr32 /u <name of file> for each of those files there (only three files in that directory - and if not there - you will have to search for them , may be in system32 on some systems) ...

reboot - and install powerdvd ...

    all is well
