  1. i have made many svds and vcds using tmpg, virtual dub, vcd easy. my problem is i recently got an aver media card for analog capturing of my vhs tapes. when i capture as a mpeg1 i have no problems with any of the above mentioned programs. when a try to capture a mpeg2 on any of the 3 settings high medium or low i have troubles 1 vcd wont open it because it says it isnt multiplexed. 2 tmpg wont open it because its unsupported. 3 virtual dub also will not open it. if i use tmpg mpeg tools and multiplex it vcd will now open it with errors, but tmpg still will not open it. when i analyze the m2(high) with m2 edit pro it says Claimed mux rate is 6500800 but the real bitrate is 7836809
(more than 10% diff) when i analyze a m2 medium or low it saysClaimed video bitrate is 7200000 but the real bitrate is 4568795
    (more than 10% diff)
    * Claimed mux rate is 3242000 but the real bitrate is 4839187
    (more than 10% diff)
i have tried many things and spent much time on this, any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated

When trying to open MPEG-2 video in TMPGEnc, select Options-->Environmental setting-->VFAPI Plugin. Right click on Direct Show priority until it is two or higher.

depends on which version of tmpgenc you are using -- later versions you would have to bump up the mpeg2 decoder in VFAPI Plugin..

but --- i found out something a while ago --- when you install M2 edit pro it installs the elecard mpeg2 decoder codec whether you want it to or not .. and on sveral of my systems this caused a lot of problems .. you have to unreg them with
    Code:
     REGSVR32.EXE /U <name of file>
    ..

there are 3 and they are in program files / common files / msm (or something like that ) .. unreg all 3 and delete and reboot ...

then install either powerdvd or ligos for tmpgenc to properly read mpeg2 files (you MAY have to reinstall tmpgenc but ui never have) ... i dont like powerdvd (cant play back high def mpeg even on hardware that supports it - but the codec works better in tmpgenc than ligos) .. so i install powerdvd - then install windvd and re-associate mpeg2 files with windvd ..

this works fine but if you re-install m2 edit pro it will again overwrite your codec's (windvd and powerdvd play togther nicely as does cinemaster (all versions tested)) ..

this make it all run smooth (dvd2avi , tmpgenc , main concept, vitec, vegas video and others i use (all apps that can re-proccess mpeg2 files)...

v-dub i didnt think could open mpeg files anyway -- correct me if im wrong -- i always frame served mpeg files to v-dub .
