  1. Anyone try out Virtualdub 1.4.11 released a week ago? Fix some bugs we commonly have?

Sadly, VirtualDub _still_ does not work with real video files
used by real people in the real world. Until the author of VirtualDub
fixes this major bug, VDubwillr emain useless for most people in
    the real world.
Proof: AVI files authored by Ulead Media Studio Pro cannot be
opened by VirtualDub. Further proof: VirtualDub bounces right off
AVI files authored by Adobe Premiere 6.X. Yet further proof: VirtualDub
cannot open AVI files authored by VEGAS video suite.
Until the grossly defective file-reading routines in VDub are corrected
so that they operate as well as (say) TMPGEnc (which has no problems
on my machine opening Ulead MSP 6.X AVI files), VirtualDub remains
    vaporware.

Still on this bandwagon xed? I wish you would stop posting your dribble about VirtualDub since for the majority of us we use it on a daily basis without any problems. What the hell do expect from a free program anyhow? Avery Lee did a fine job on this latest release and considering he does it for nothing I'd stop bitching if I were you. I hope they lock this thread in a hurry so we don't have to hear you drone on!

I'll agree with xed, to a point. I agree, it would be nice if it would work with WDM files. I wish I was a better programmer, so that I might fix this. But I'm not. So until someone steps up and rewrites this for use with newer directX routines, it will be slightly lacking for some of us.

Now, that said.... Virtual Dub is one hell of a creation. Especially for free!
Hope is the trap the world sets for you every night when you go to sleep and the only reason you have to get up in the morning is the hope that this day, things will get better... But they never do, do they?

  6. what do you mean by WDM files??? Vdub has read every file I've thrown at it so far and works great with my BT848 WDM drivers. I Don't understand why some have problems with it.

    evening kitty,
Actually, I D/L'ed last week, while a work. But I've not ben able to test it
out as of yet. I'm still loving AVI_IO - oops. he, he... Anyways...

vdub still give me a lot of frame drops no matter what. But, avi_io gives
me ZERO drops. However, I DO use vdub in my frameserving, and lots
of it. Also, I do capture w/ it on my 1st PC, for various reasons.

But, i'm stuck usiling 1.4.9 b13720 cause for some reason, there's ben no
issue w/ it to date. AT least none that I know of. However, v1.3 is the
one to use, if you are having color issues. This one seems to pass video
w/out color modication, though I don't use it, being that I don't seem to
    have any color issues.

For editing and frameserving, I use the ultimate, VDUB.
and, for capturing, I use avi_io. w/ my WTVGO card. And, any other
capture card, and avi_io will drop frames.

No Problem, if xed wants to send Avery $399 (the cost of Premiere) I am sure Avery could write a routine for loading his files.

Well, I dunno, I use virtualdub on a daily basis, and I never had a single problem with it, nor I came across a file I could not open. Lots of people love the tool, and there are many guides based on it... And they work too. I dunno, must be me

Oh, must say willy_annand has a point too. I everyone that used virtualdub sent that much money to the maker of virtualdub, uh, I think he could hire quite an extensive group of programmers to help him. But, there will always have a guy that will try to see all he can't do with a great program and whine.
