  1. hey...

I looked even in some last posts, but couldn't find an answer.
it's about subtitles... is writing them with a software the only way to put them in a movie? can it be put with TBPGEnc, Virtual Dub or VCDEasy?

when I rip the movie from a DVD, can I put the subtitles files to be burnt as well as I put the chapters file (extension .IFO) using VCDEasy, for example? If so, what's the extension or name of this file?

also, can they be put in VCD or only in SVCD? Somehow, all the examples people used were with SVCD.

if someone know a way to put subtitles, please please let me know.

    take care.

If you want permanent subtitles (the text is actually a part of the picture), you can use avisynth or virtualdub to add them and frameserve to tmpgenc. From a DVD, the easiest way is probably to use the vobsub plugins. Permanent subtitles work in both VCD and SVCD, since they're just part of the picture.

If you want switchable (DVD-like) subtitles, those are only available on SVCD and only if your player supports them. You would use subrip to extract the subtitles to BMPs and winsubmux to add them as a subtitle stream to an existing SVCD MPEG file.

vobsub is linked in the tools section of this site. I think it is also available from doom9.net's download page, if that link is down.

A guide on how to use vobsub: http://www.vcdhelp.com/forum/userguides/87065.php
