I'd heard this suggested some time ago, don't really remember where, unfortunately. I think the idea is that dvd lasers, as opposed to vcd player lasers, could potentially damage cr-r's to some extent, b/c they're more similar in wavelength and/or intensity etc to those in burners running in the record mode than are vcd players/cd rom drives.
Any evidence this is possible, or am I just being paranoid?![]()

This was a warning that came with the early model DVD players that were not CD-R/W compatible. It was a "hypothetical" risk and the manufacturers' probably just wanted to protect themselves.
In the intervening years, I have never heard of one report where this appeared to be the case.
Thus, it is very unlikely to damage your CD-R/W discs. However, if you get a DVD player, one that is compatible with CD-R/W is obviously best.
