I use the ATI MMC 7.7 software to capture my favorite television shows off of cable. I am quite satisfied with the results from the ATI software.

  3. I guess its down to personal preference. The ATI MMC is ok for watching TV, but when it comes down to capture I much prefer virtualdub.

Agreed on personal preference, but also add method of use. I simply use my system as a replacement for a VCR. I record using MMC 7.7 MPG CBR at 2mbps (xVCD). I then edit out the commercials and burn to an 80m CDR and watch in my DVD player.

The average hour long TV show comes in at between 40-45 minutes after removing commercials. 45 minutes at 2mbps fits almost perfectly onto a single 80m CDR.

I end up with a VHS quality recording that I burn to a 14¢ disc.
