Hello all, Apologies for the long post and also if the answer is buried somewhere in the forum. I have searched similar posts, but my problem seems to cover more than one piece of software.
I have successfully converted two or three avis to vcd with tmpg, but my problems arise when I try to back up a dvd. I have used SmartRipper to rip two separate dvds. I have tried unsuccessfully over the past two weeks to convert to vcd.
Last night DVDx was running along albeit slowly. I decided to leave it running overnight. On looking in on it the next day, it had frozen about 75% complete with a read error in dvd2avi.vfp. This has also happened several times with the other rip.
I have also tried at least a dozen times with dvd2avi and tmpg. No problem with the dvd2avi stage, but tmpg freezes with an error message part way through. I have have twice received the same error message in the same program location referring to a read error with the vfapi codec.
I have not yet tried to use tmpg on the present rip, but I did convert a clip five minutes either side of where the conversion stopped with dvdx. This was ok, so I presume it isn't a problem with the rip?
The pc is a 500mhz PIII with 256MB ram, ( was 128, but I upgraded yesterday ).
Thanks for any suggestions.
John
