  1. Hi,
I have an avi file that I'm trying to convert to dvd. During encoding, it gives me this error "-538676289 0". If I click ok, it continues but the same error appears every few frames. If I continue to let it to that, the mpg I get video but no audio.

I notice that when I'm at the source range screen, there are no audio waves - straight all the way through. I tried opening the avi file with Sound Forge but that also gave me an error.

This happened to 2 of the 26 avi's I have and the only commonality between them is that their audio bit rate is 127kpbs whereas all the other files are some other number.

Note: I tried creating a vcd file and it also gave me an error but this time it's "-537403781 1032192". But what I really want is a dvd file!

    Anyone have any ideas?
    Thanks,
    V.

  2. If soundforge won't open the avi file try goldwave, its shareware. If that doesn't work another option is extracting the audio using virtualdub as per the guides on this site.

  3. Yep, I posted the same question on the TmpgEnc bbs and I'm told that TmpgEnc doesn't like compressed formats and if SoundForge couldn't open it then most likely it's Dolby Digital AC3.

In case anyone else is experiencing the same issue.. I used Virtual Dub AC3 to open it and saved it as a wav file. Then I used the avi as the video in and the new wav as in the audio in and created a new avi with Virtual Dub. Then I used TmpgEnc to create the mpeg2. Worked great. The reason why I didn't just use the wav created by Virtual Dub was because I tried having TmpgEnc put them together and it came out really choppy.
