  1. My DVD player doesnt support SVCD. I found a posting that said if I encode using a TMPGE svcd template then use TMPGE's mpeg tools and do a simple multiplex using mpeg1 the file will be readable. I tried it and it worked but ohter than a larger file size I dont notice any difference in picture or sound quailty than some of the other templates I have used. Am I missing something here?
    Thanks

It all depends on the source of your movie. If you have the purest source like a dvd rip then svcd will be far better than vcd. But if the source sucks then encoding to SVCD will not improve the movie.
You can never improve the original.

if you encoded an existing vcd to svcd then there would be no quality change (actually it would probably get worse)

  3. My source is in exellent quality. I guess what Im asking is if I encode using a mpeg2 template, then multiplex using mpeg1-nonstandard am I changing anything but the header?
    Thanks

to change the header use the Simple Multiplex under the mpegtools. select your mpeg2 file and then change type to mpeg-2 nonstandard.
This will not change any of the quality of the mpeg2. all it is doing is put a header on the file saying its mpeg1.
