hello there......ive a few avi. files which basically are dvd rips...i used nero to encode them to vcd format but found to my dismay that the disc size required was much greater than the avi file size.,eg..avi file size was 715mb...vcd size ...830mb.app.my dilema is.how do i get these encoded files to disc which i can play on my stand alone dvd player which will play just about anything. many thanks in advance.

The best place to start is right to the left of this - HOW TO / NEWBIE
In (extremely) short:- Use TMPGEnc to encode.
Use VCDEasy to author & burn.
- Use TMPGEnc to encode.

No, Nero wont split your file into suitable chunks. You can split the AVI using VirtualDub, or use TMPGEnc to encode the AVI in 2 (or more) parts, or, encode it in full using TMPGEnc, then use the mpeg tools in TMPGEnc to split the mpeg in CD sized pieces.
Now, autor & burn these CD sized mpegs using VCDEasy.
