I'm looking at other hardware encoders to make DVDs with my laptop (besides the ADS & Hauppauge USB1.1 units). USB 1.1, USB2.0, and firewire are all fine, but they should have realtime hardware encoding.
The Snazzi looks among the likeliest to possibly be better than the two units mentioned above, but I can't find out what encoder chip it uses. I think at this point the only one in the running at under $300 would be the iTVC15...
Just for kicks, I was digging around and found pdfs for reference units by Conexant for iTVC15 units using USB2.0 AND USB1.1! So I think if the Snazzi doesn't use it, there should be one in the future. Might be worth the wait...
Also for kicks, I looked for an external case to connect a PCI card to a laptop via its PCMCIA port. I found one manufacturer (Magna), and they start at $800 or so... umm.. no, thanks.
Anyway, anyone have a Snazzi? Anyone pop the case? Anyone have a URL with the info? Anyone...?

I know from the ADS site that the IDVD uses a chip with no hardware audio/video sync lock. The Snazzi III uses one in the same class but it does have the sync lock. You might be able to find it in the forum there or at the Creative Cow forum...

Yeah, the IDVD is the streammachine chip used in some hauppauge units (and others). The PVR USB, though, is an iTVC12. The iTVC15 is a newer model yet. I may have to wait for a laptop fast enough to encode in software...
