In this week's CompUSA circular, there's an ad for DVD+R/RW for $250. No details are given. Anyone know what drive this is?
Here's the link to the ad.

Sounds almost too good to be true. If you are stateside, and it is not a toll call for you, how about calling and asking them for us less fortunate ones?
Hello. -
I went to compusa.com and put in the SKU number from the ad, but no matches, so they don't have it online. If the normal price is $299.99, then I wonder what brand it can be? Of course the internal workings probably are the same as the HP because of the limited number of transport manufacturers, but what kind of warranty, etc.?
I kinda think this is like when selling a small house, don't put the sqaure footage in the ad. People have to call and ask, but you already have a little bit of interest if they were motivated enough to call. In other words, my guess is it is not a name brand.
On the other hand, the price is so low, that if it is a big name, CompUSA may have had to agree to not put the manufacturer's name in the ad. -
Just say a name-brand DVD burner at Sam's Club, although I forget the brand, for $299.95, so you are in the ball park. Let's hope the price war will now begin!!!!!

OK, here is the scoop, it is an introductory product that according to the CompUSA phone rep, it is not avaible quite yet. It is made by Buslink, but Buslink's website doesn't show an internal model just yet. Sounds like they are guaging interest in the $299 price point, but with no product available, that could simply anger potential customers.
Anyone else find out anything? -

When I paid for one to be "sent from the warehouse" after seeing it in the ad and it was out of stock at my local store, I didn't know about it being a "test" product.
Well, just this week on 10/24 (Yeah, 9 1/2 weeks after paying for it), I got a call saying "Sorry, we aren't going to be carrying this product, come in for a refund." In fact, I was told that it would be in the store within the week that I bought it.
Now, usually, I'd just accept the refund and keep looking for a DVD+RW, but I skipped two almost-as-good deals at BestBuy while I was waiting for the one at CompUSA as it "Should be in this week". So, I tried asking for the $50 instant savings on one of the drives that they did have in stock, and was flatly refused. All they could do was give me a refund. Gee, they could have warned me two and a half months ago not to hold my breath and I would have gladly gone somewhere else!
So, I declined the refund at that time to investigate my legal options and to attempt to get this resolved in a mutually beneficial way. It's not like I'm out for blood and want one for free. I just want the $50 instant savings that I should have gotten on the drive that I paid for but never received.
So, I sent a letter to the National Service area and figured I could call them if I don't hear from them soon. I've also filled out the paper work to file a complaint to my states attorney general as I swear this is some sort of bait-and-switch or other manuever as if CompUSA did this every week, they'd be causing major havok. I just haven't mailed it yet pending other attempts. I've also got an appointment with a lawyer to see if this really does classify as something illegal.
Now, when I was there this week, they had 2 other forms of people that must have gotten the same run down as me, so I'm guessing some other visitors of this board must be in the same predicament.
Anyone else have any suggestions or stories about this? -
