    my cs knowledge is wanting to say the least. but i think efforts should be made into a new algorithm for ripping, demuxing, transcoding, and muxing. i think the wrapper we put it in makes no difference. well, open source community, get on it!!

    yep there is nothing a GUI wrapper can do to make software more optimized, that is all up to the software its based on with ffmpegx that would be ffmpeg, mpeg2enc.. etc... there is only so far that software can be optimized. qshartle correct me if im wrong, but your working on a G3 right? if you are you really can't expect encoding to get THAT much faster.. you can get DECENT speeds on a G3, but if you want speeds to get significantly better you really need a G4, altivec does wonders.
