What capture card do you have? If it's an ATI, try Stinky's Registry Tweaker. It has a Macrovision defeat built into it and should work with Multi Media Centre 7.5, 7.6 and 7.7. My ATI All In Wonder 7500 with the Tweaker works very well indeed with Macrovision encoded VHS tapes. The Tweaker should be available from this site or from Doom9...

some tv cards have hacked drivers that don't reconize macrovision.
Some old VCR's bypass Macrovision when the signal is sent via the Coaxial Cable.
U can get a copymaster or signalmaster or something that u plug the vcr into and it stabilizes the RCA out video, removing macrovision. Circut City sells them. -
ratz,
you didn't say what capture card you are using. However, i'll assume you
don't have a DC10+
The DC10+ card is a great little card to have for capturing VHS source
material, and also ignores the MV signal - probably due to it's built-in
TBC. The DC10+ card will lock into your video/audio but if you VHS tape
has any issues like stretching or ware etc., you'll have framedrops.
This is something that is almost impossible to ignore w/ almost any capture
card other than the WTVGO card. But, the WTVGO card, when you capture
w/ it, doesn't hold the video stable, and so, you video will wobble up and
down or something like that, though not a all tapes, but just most of them
per my experience.
Also, this is the only card that does not incorporate ANY noise in your final
captures, other than the noies associated w/ VCR/VHS source.
I do have a seporate TBC (video stabilizer/cleaner) but the DC10+ does
a much better job (IMO)
If you can find a DC10+ (older ones were sold for $59) get it and take good
care of it. It has Composite and S-Video for In/Out
If you can't find for $59, then you'll have to settle for the Studio 7 or
Studio 8 package which sells for $129 (has the DC10+ card) but this card
may have ben re-designed, only this time, w/ MV re-enabled. This was
checked by me, but may be confirmed by someone else here who uses it
for store bought movies on VHS.
Good luck.
