  1. I have to ask here because ATI Tech Support sucks (sorry ATI, but it's true):

Before I start my story here are my specs: Windows 2000, 750 Mhz Athlon, ATI Rage Fury with VIVO, 128 MB RAM

I have the ATI Rage Fury with VIVO and I needed to capture video into the computer. So I went to the ATI site, downloaded the latest ATI All-in-Wonder drivers (because they don't have drivers for the Rage Fury VIVO, and All-in-Wonder is closest thing) and also downloaded the latest version of the Multimedia Center - 7.1. I loaded up the Multimedia Center and was pleased that I could capture video. However, the video I captured was choppy, so I decided to try capturing with Adobe Premiere. Unfortunately, the capture driver wasn't found. It didn't work for Ulead Mediastudio either, nor AVIEdit, or even the simple Microsoft Vidcap.

I decided to check if the capture driver was even installed, though I was pretty sure it was, since I could capture with the ATI Program. And sure enough, it WASN'T installed. It wasn't listed under Capture Devices in the Multimedia Control Panel.

It worked in Windows ME, so I'm sure there must be a problem with the Windows 2000 driver. Has anyone found a fix or anyone think they might know a solution to this problem?

  2. good luck.
I have an older AIW 128. the defult win2k drivers will capture video, but the 3D barely works. If I install any newer driver, the TV quits working. I have a copy of 95 on another partition just for video and games. See if I get another ATI card.

  3. geez, doesn't anyone search the forums anymore? this has been answered a million times.

the newest 9x/ME drivers and all 2K drivers are WDM only. you need to install a VFWWDM wrapper to access the vfw interface. search the forums for "vfwwdm" and "wrapper" and you'll find several links to it. just make sure you use the right versions for your OS. win9x code versions begin with 4.x.xxxx and NT/2K code is 5.x.xxxx.

for win9x/ME use 4.12.6292 drivers for the AIW 128 Pro / Fury vivo. in 2k use 5.13.01.192 and the wrapper. with a 750 Athlon you should be able to do realtime high-quality SVCD captures. use MMC 7.1 in either case.

  5. Patrickm,

Would you please enlighten me on how to make a realtime SVCD with AIW 128 and MMC 7.1?

Actually Thats not Possible cause MMC uses Ligos MPEG-2 Compression Codecs and Any MPEg-2 Would Have to be Fixed cause of INvalid Headers in the GOP Structure

yes, technically that's true, so it's actually not 1xRT, but more like 1.1xRT. you have to demux and remux to fix the headers, and then for 480x480 fix the SDE tags with 'fix12c.exe' (if your dvd player cares, like pioneer), which takes about 6-8 minutes per hour of video on my 900 Athlon.

there's several long threads discussing the specs and procedure for ATI near-realtime SVCD, so just search the forums. but the quick and dirty overview for MMC 7.1:
    480x480
    MPEG-2 IBP 15/3
    2.30 Mbps Video, VBR
    Deinterlace, no visual masking
Motion estimation ~75-100% (whatever you can do w/o frame drops)

demux, remux in TMPG, bbMPEG, iFilmEdit, etc. as SVCD MPEG-2 VBR

run through fix12c from the command line/'run' box with:
    fix12c "D:\filename.mpg" -v 480 -h 480
