Well one reason DVD2SVCD is nice is because CCE is much much faster and produces better quaility encodes then TMPGenc. (Aside - myself and others have found that CCE runs a little faster if you source video and output video are in different directories). To laern how to use CCE read the pdf file that installs with it, also take a look at the *.ecl file from your DVD2SVCD project as a 'template' to get an idea how everything works.
I use CCE to encode from DivX and VHS captured source all the time.
It's all about the quaility of the souce material. Just try to transfer your video to your HD in the highest resolution possible (720/702/640x480), 30fps, 24bitRGB, etc. And go from there.
Question - I though the whole point of digital recorders (DV, digitial8, etc) was that they could transfer to a computer with zero losses of quaility? I caputure from VHS/analog source so I expect a quaility hit, but what's the point of digitial (save for editing/storage) if teh quailiy takes a the same hit???
