  2. I'm sorry, I can't help you. But you're not alone. I have the same problem with my DVD-Player.
Did you use the SVCD templates by KalEl ? I suppose the bitrate is to high !?!

  5. I was about to post exactly that problem. The VCD plays great on the computer, but play with a slight hesitation on the NAPA Dav 330 in this cas. Almost plays perfecly but every now and then a flicker at a regular rate. Sound is smooth.

produced the last one from an AVI from TV from Matrox capture card. converted to MPG with TMPGenc with a vcd templete for pal 352x288, 25 frames/s 1150 CBR, high quality (slow) This is from what I have read here all coreect to VCD PAL

    Burnt with Nero 5.5

Other VCD's sourced elsewhere play fine on the NAPA

could it be the disks or can anyone suggest better settings for TMPenc

    thanks

  6. how high qre you setting the bitrate? i had the same problem on my dvd player. i just had to keep testing to see what worked the best. if i keep the bitrate under 2000 it plays smoothly.

  7. I have a Napa DAV 309. My first VCDs always had a problem with jerky motion and choppy sound. I found that if I used the default Tmpgenc NTSC template and I lowered the audio bitrate from 224 to 128, the problem would go away.

  8. Make sure if you capture at 44khz, you encode at 44khz. If you capture at 48khz, then you should encode in 48khz. Fixed my problem.

Is there a way to find out the bitrate of an existing file? My audio is off sync, so I think my DVD player can't handle the bitrate.

  11. bitrate viewer is available in the tools section.. its fairly accurate

my svcds play fine.. but hte time is displayed wrong.. ie at the end of a 1 hour movie the player says only 40 mins have passed... i think thats a bitrate thing too.. (its about a 1500 kbps svcd) although i havent made any 2500 kbps svcds to test the theory

although i dont really mind because they play fine

    made with tmpgenc btw

Wookie you are the freakin man!! I downloaded a bitrate checker (SVCD calc) and it told me that my audio is 76ms off. I couldnt understand why my first disc worked and the others didnt. I checked the first file and it was in sync. So how can I stop the delay of 76ms?

  13. Well with TTMPEG I loaded standard VCD-PAL template, changed bitrate to 1123 as reccomended. Source was MPEG4-AVI video (28 days)
Then burned with Nero and Memorex24Maxx on Precision CDR (24x). But unfortunately playback on NAPA DAV 311 was very very jerky !!!
Than today I found an excelent link with guide and TTMPEG templates for NAPA-VCD here and I am going to use this one:

    http://www25.brinkster.com/fletchlinks/napa311/

does anyone have good experience with those templates ?
Do templates for "older" TTMPEG version generally work fine with new versions or must I use the "same" version of TTMPEG for which one was the template made???

Are TTMPEG versions for VCD (better DivX to VCD conversion) generally very different in performance/quality or can I use ANY TTMPEG version without reasonable performance differencies???

NAPA - The Most Flexible Media Player yet - FAQ Sheet

    Napa DAV311 FAQ's

    1. Why does my Napa not charge?

On a few of the earlier models, the battery will not charge if the hold feature has been enabled.

    2. I only get sound when connected to a TV watching VCD's

The VCD feature will only work if the AC adapter is connected, ensure this is connected.

    3. Does it support Multi session CDs?

The Napa will only read closed CDs, a multi session CD will not be completely seen.

    4. Does the Napa read MP3 stored in different folders (directories)?

Yes, it will scan the entire CD for MP3s and number them in the order they were burnt onto the CD.

    5. Does the Napa read ID tags?

The Napa does not have provision to read Ids, it will only number the tracks.

    6. What MP3 Bit rate does the Napa support?

The Napa will read everything 96Kb and above, this includes variable bit rate MP3s.

    7. How long can I expect the batteries to last?

The battery generally lasts for about 3 hours, depending on volume.

    8. How long does it take to charge up from flat?

It usually takes around 4 hours from completely flat.

    9. Can it use normal batteries?

The Napa uses a unique battery designed for the Napa. Replacement batteries are available.

    10. How do I enable Anti-Skip (ESP)?

This is documented in the manual, although not very clearly. To enable the ESP press the mode button twice and then the track skip forward button. The letter "A" will appear in front on the track time to indicate it has been enabled. You can also use the digest button on the remote control to do the same.

    11. How long is the ESP?

The ESP feature is between 5-10 Seconds on Audio CD and 20-25 Seconds on MP3 CDs.

    12. What are Video CDs?

Video CDs are a fairly old format for films. The quality is not as good as DVDs, its comparable to VHS video. Films usually come on 2 CDs and can be purchased from various locations, including websites.

    13. Why does my Napa spin the CD but not play?

If the batteries are in a low state, the unit will fail to play CD's. The motor will spin the CD around and the display will just show "ON". Recharging the battery will fix this problem.

    14. Why are VCD pictures black/white or jumping?

If the format (NTSC/PAL) is set incorrectly, the image will be intermittent. Use the P/N button to change between PAL and NTSC.

    15. Why is the Remote control intermittent?

Ensure the remote is being used within 7 meters. Ensure the battery for the remote is not running low.
