    Good Afternoon to All.

Here is a question for those that use ATI capture cards. Obviously, anything captured via the MMC can be reopened and played back with the ATI file viewer. However, the opposite does not seem to be true. That is, a standard AVI capture via Vdub (using the ATI capture card) or for that matter any other capture mechanism will not play with the MMC file player. I suspect that for other mpg generated (read as non ati) not being able to be played via ATI MMC is due to codec incompatibilities. However, for uncompressed AVI what rationale could be used????

    edsmith77,
If it plays back thru WMP then it should playback thru the ATI file player with no problem with the exception of .wmv files. Something about the variable bitrate with .wmv screws the whole thing up and it doesn't play back properly at least this has been the case with me. I can honestly say this is the first time I've heard of a problem like this with the file player and I've been using ATI software for the past 3 years. More often than not WMP has been the issue and not visa versa. My only suggestion for you would be to uninstall MMC and the do a reinstall after rebooting and see if your still having the same problem. Beyond this I don't know what to tell you.
    Warning! I'm baaaaaaaaack

    kayfam,
Thanks for the reply. I have been using this ATI Rampage Card for a couple of years without one iota of trouble. I just now started into using the capture features of the card. Previously, I had not even installed MMC. Soooooo. I went back to the CD and installed MMC. It was version 6.x. Went looking for newer updates and found MMC 7.x. So I installed them. MMC (via the video in) works quite well does what it says. No problems there.
I do have the same problem you mentioneda about playing back through wmp. Just a blank screen. However, the files being played are correctly formated etc etc. I presume they are cuz they work just fine in my standalone. Yet if I try to use the Video CD MMC feature, again just a blank screen.
On the other hand, for captures with the MMC, they will play (i.e., editable, etc) via vdub, tempgenc, etc without hitch.

I have read in this forum about vfw drivers versus other types not being totally compatible with some software. I just do not understand this part nor do I know how to determine which ones I am using.

Lastly, do you know of a book, that would deal with these uniquenesses of video capture? Something like an "Idiots Guide to Video". Now I can relate to that book. Most of this is so new to me. I just do not have a good handle on the technology behind the scenes to know what to do next.
I can run software with the best of them but I have no real idea of what I am doing or what to expect.

    Thanks for listening.
