    3. DETAILED DESCRIPTION AND MANUAL SOLUTION OF RECORDING PRESETS PROBLEMS

The MMC doesn't remember the recording preset settings; the four efaults are set. This doesn't happen if I just close the MMC 8.9 and start it again. The problem occurs on REBOOT.

    Manual Solution:
The solution I found is to put the settings as you wish and close the MMC. Then directly go the registry under:
    [HKEY_USERS\S-1-5-21-220523388-1979792683-682003330-1003\Software\ATI Technologies\MultiMedia\Features\TV\Video Capture]
and EXTRACT the whole branch to a reg.entry (schortcut to desktop) and run it EVERY TIME AFTER REBOOT BEFORE STARTING MMC.

    That's one fix.

It's a registry error. Normally caused from installing or updating MMC without removing the old one entirely.

I don't know how the original poster fared but this is not working for me.

I lose my mmc presets without a reboot!

Does anyone know the ati mmc registry key for file size? this is the one chnge in the presets I really really need. I keep changing to 1 gig max in all presets and it just ALWAYS goes back to unloimited file size even without a reboot. last night I recorded the olympics opening ceremony and sure enough I have a 9gig file. I have several 9g, 8g, 7g mpegs that are anightmare to burn onto dvds easily. I just want to be able to set to 1 or 4 gig max and mmc just loses my presets all the time.

I am running mmc9.1 with previous versions unistalled as ati instructions before install. only difference is I must instal one previous version from disk first otherwise I do not get dvd playback.

the above solution with registry extraction reload does not work for me.

  4. I myself have given up on mmc when recording directly from cable. I have used a product called beyond tv and find it easy to use and very helpful a 21 day trial is available from snapstream.com it works very well with my ati aiw 9800pro it might not be for everyone but it meets my needs.

That is a fairly critical difference when they say to have everything uninstalled. The DVD installer should only need to check your disc anyway, not have an installed version.. Most certainly toss the DVD player and do a test install with the proper nothing installed then see if it works, then worry about getting the DVD player back up and running if needed. Even the free players on some DVD's are better, I don't even have theirs installed myself..

  6. If the registry entry lordsmurf mentioned works for any of you, try saving it to the startup folder in the start menu. Works great for me with my TV tuner settings, and eliminates the need to manually run the entry each time you reboot.

    alan, thanks.

actually you are correct the newer installer just did check the original disk, so unlike previous my last was utterly clean.

I still have presets disappearing,a nd from reading various ati forums so do many people.

does anyone know the registry key entry for ati's recorded file size?
