  1. I have about a 90 minute video I want to make available to users. This can be a smaller size that is ok with me. What is the smallest size this can be and what format would that be in?

    Thanks

I would use DivX. You can get a free copy at www.divx.com

  3. I would recommend windows media. You won't need to have all the folks who play the file download and install a codec as long as their PC's have a fairly recent MS's Windows media player. The filesizes are also probably about the same if not smaller than a comparable divx file.

With WMV I encoded a file with a 320x240 framesize (large enough to watch fullscreen) and I ended up using a little better than 1 meg per minute of audio/video. There are artifacts when encoding for such a small file size though.

If you can deal with a smaller framesize like 150x120 you can get the file size small enough to stream over a modem. It would probably be around 300-400kb per minute.

I've heard that realmedia codecs are pretty good as well but I can't stand all of the adware they put on your pc when you install them.
