When you encode the mpeg file with Tmpgenc or CCE makesure you tick the close gops box or you wont be able to make chapter entry points in the movie

  5. No, your MPEG is still salvagable.

All you need is to use MPEG Sequence Maker to insert sequence headers into your MPEG.

You will need to demux to the elemental video and audio streams first.

    Use MPEG Sequence Maker.

    Then remux.

http://www.vcdimager.org/guides/chapters.html has a section need the top that explains this.

  8. ok i figured it out!!
this is using tmpgenc to encode to mpeg2 for SVCD
in the GOB structure tab you have to set the following value:

"output interval of sequence header: 1"

you must set that to 1, otherwise you will only get one chapter entry point in vcdeasy showing

well this worked for me anyway, not guaranteeing that it'll work will everybody, but this is great

  9. actually if you close GOPs you will lose quality. leave those GOPs open.

  10. As described in http://www.vcdimager.org/guides/chapters.html

Closing all GOPs could hypothetically reduce the quality but I don't believe anyone has actually demonstrated this with the commonly used encoders. With (older versions at least) TMPGEnc, some people have remarked how if "GOPs were left open", sometimes there wouldn't be a valid entrypoint point placement for an extended period of time (e.g., > 15 seconds). This makes putting chapters in problematic if you did not set TMPGEnc to force intra frames prior to encoding.

  11. I've heard alot more for leaving GOPs open than closing, also in the CCE manual they suggest to leave open unless you are making multi-angle DVDs.

So closing them might help more with the entry points for TMPGEnc made files.

I was encoding with closed GOPs for a little while, read up on it, majority said don't, haven't since, haven't noticed a difference either way. Just seemed like the thing to do (just like platform shoes, what was I thinking )

  12. Yes, most suggest leaving GOPs open (except for DVDs?).

However, closing GOPs will fix some annoying problems and I don't think it actually affects the quality much in anycase...
