does this mean i will have to re-encode it again? does it compress it smaller file?

If you want to split it use TMPGEnc.
File - Mpeg tools - merge and cut - make sure file type is set to mpeg-1 Video-cd.
Add the file you want to cut, click on the file then click on edit.
Use the slider and left and right arrow keys (for precission) to choose your start point. Click on the left bracket. Do the same to select your end point, click on the right bracket. Click on ok choose your new output name, (for example "film disc1")then click on run. Your selection will be saved to the new file name. Repeat this for the second part of the film.

Yes, you will have to encode it again. If you want Craigtucker's advice and use TMPGEnc, I suggest using the Source Frame function. The Merge & Cut function can be problematic (read: buggy).
Hello. -
Tommyknocker
I often get read address errors which I just ignore, as they do not seem to have an adverse effect on the process.
I have about 120 VCD's split using this method, and have not yet encountered any problem.

hey i'm encoding and trying to compress a 580mb avi to mpeg1 with tmpgenc holy shit 80 hours to encode, is this right?
-
What is your resolution, template, and other settings?
Hello. -
480x480 pixel somting like that, i did what you told me to do from yesterday, i saved my template etc....... were can i find that

I do know that TMPGEnc always starts out with wild guesses when it starts to encode, then drops its estimation as it progresses. Try to encode it anyway, and see if drops below 80 hours. If it does not, you can always abort.
