Ok I am trying to use a couple differnt of the dvd ripping guides here because no "one" of them gives me what I want. So I will start by explaining what I am trying to do
I am ripping a DVD (in this case it is Scorpion King Wide version), what i want for output is something to fit on a dvd+r with the entire main movie (obviously) and the original menu.
Now .. Derrow has some EXCELLENT guides on how to do exactly this .. and i followed them to the T and got what I wanted .. sort of for output .. problem is Rempeg seems to use constant bit compression and that just sucks. Even set to 90% original quality i have artifacts all over the place, my SVCD version of this movie at 1/2 the size looks substatially better then when Rempeg got done with it.
So I decided to use dvd2svcd to do the graphic conversion part, and then rather then using spruceup to remake menus, just use ifoedit to recombine the output file from dvd2svcd into the original vobs. This also .. sort of worked i ended up with a video_ts directory with everything i needed for the movie and menus in a small enough form to fit on a dvd+r. However previewing the movie with both ifoedit and powerdvd shows some serious sound distortion, very chopping, some skipping etc. I assume this is something that dvd2svcd did to the audio (and yes i had it set to use source audio). Now with dvd2svcd i end up with 2 files a mp2 file and a d2v file, i assumed i could just use ifoedit and combine the mp2 and it would pick up the audio in the original vob's. I'm pretty sure this is where my logic went wrong.
So in short a few questions.
1) Why is Rempeg so highly recommended ? The video output i got was no where near dvd quality tons of artifacts all over the place.
2) If i use dvd2svcd to output the video how to i "recombine" everything to not have the audio issues I am now ?
3) Is there an easier way ?![]()

I too found Rempg results were awful. After using it I used to reply to questions on DVD+RW forum about how to do this by saying "Use a dvd recorder" as the results are better.
However I found a link on this site to http://www.digital-forums.com/dvd2dvdr/ which uses TMPGenc to give an excellent results very easily.

gab,
Thank you for your polite informative responce, I appreciate it.
Unfortuantely I had already seen this guide and it is a lot of work and you still dont' end up with the "original" menu that the movie has. I am currently (at this moment) trying a guide on doom's site that will supposedly allow tmpgenc to work with ifoedit so that I can get the results I want. -
Well at least getting the quality is a good first step. I have not yet tried to get menus working.
There does not seem to be any easy answer, although DVD2SVCD gets close.
As DVD R in any format gets more popular, I am sure we will see an increasing number of software releases to do exactly what we want.
Good Luck -
Well .. that didn't work .. used the tmpgenc guide for ifoedit on doom9 and it is even more jerky and unresponsive then before i used the guide.
Is there anyway to be able to use tmpgenc and ifoedit to remux ? These reauthoring programs force me to make new menu's thats not what I want I want to use the original menu .. -
Can no one help with this ?
I am willing at this point to try just about anything .. All I want to be able to do is rip the dvd (easily done) , re-encode the main movie vob's using tmpgenc (as rempeg really really sucks) use some other program to remux it with the original, and poof then i can use the original menu's and still have a movie small enough for a dvd+r
i've tried 10 differnt ways with ifoedit to remux a tmpgenc output (and yes i've got 3:2 pulldown and the i frames locked via the text file output by ifoedit) and it stutters noticeably .. help me !i dont want to make my own menus there most be a way to remux a tmpgenc .m2v file with the original vob files .. or is there a way to combine the m2v with the .wav output from dvd2avi to make new vob files and use ifoedit to make new .ifo's for the whole new vobs ?
