  1. Hi guys,

I'm archiving some AVIs from the Digital Archive Project to DVD-R.

I've done this in the past using my own digitalized tape AVIs and Vegas Video 3 (VV3) without difficulty. I use DVD Complete for authoring.

In this case, however, my source material is largely MPEG4v2 at
480 x 360. VV3 does not like this codec at all, so I'm going to go to TMPEG (which I will purchase if I can get good results).

My question is straightforward, I assume I will have to change the resolution of the original AVI before going to TMPEG to generate the MPEG2 file. I would use VirtualDub, correct? If so, could someone suggest the proper resolution to use and *any* other settings that would result in the best final quality? Good TMPEG settings suggestions are welcome as well.

If I'm wrong in my assumption, I'd appreciate some straightening out.

    Thanks in advance,

    fraz

It is not the other wayaround, 360x480?

You want to re-enode them to play on standalone DVD players
I would recommend the Half D1 resolution: 352x480

TMPGENC will resize it for you.

  3. Yeah, 480 x 360, can you imagine? The project started with 640 x 480 but many folks didn't have powerful enough hardware to handle it, plus they wanted to go to the MPEG4v2 standard.

    I'll give 352 x 480 at try.

    Thanks!
