  1. I spent 2 days preparing 1 menu pic and 6 mpeg clips for my first SVCD/SXVCD. But, I have crud to show for it.

MENU BMP, MPEG I and MPEG II CLIP STATS:
    0. 480x480 bmp menu pic
    1. Mpeg 2 Dolby Digital Trailor at 480x480, 2450 CQ bps, 224 audio
    2. Internet Mpeg 1 clip at ~240x~352, ? bps, 192 audio
    3. Internet Mpeg 1 clip at ~240x~252, ? bps, 192 audio
    4. DVD to Mpeg 2 clip at 352x480, 2450 CQ bps, 224 audio
    5. DVD to Mpeg 2 clip at 352x480, 2450 CQ bps, 224 audio
    6. DVD to Mpeg 2 clip with optional subtitles at 352x480, CQ 2450 bps, 224 audio

The total play time for the clips was 10 minutes. All the clips play perfectly in sync on my computer.

    PROCESS:
I encoded all the audio with toolame at 44.1 kHz with crc.
I demuxed all the clips with tmpgenc mpeg tools.
I muxed all the clips into mps with I-Author.
I followed the steps to create a SVCD cif image with I-Author
I used cdmage to convert cif image to bin and cue.
I open cue with Nero 5 and burn the bin image.

When I pop the SVCD/SXVCD CDR into a Pioneer 525, it is black. I push play, I see my menu picture in perfect form. I go to the next track, I see super distorted blocks with stuttering screeching sound. The other video tracks are also distorted and screeching. I can barely make out the video as 90-95% is distorted and very screechy and stuttery.

    QUESTION:
WHAT THE FRICK HAPPENED? Is it because all my clips must be encoded with the same resolution, bit rate, and MPEG type encoder? Or did I simply exceed the maximum bit rate for my Pioneer 525? I thought by not exceeding 480x480 at below 2500 bit rate with 224 audio (44.1) was fine.

  2. don't use nero to burn bin&cue it will not work use cdrwin or just use ez creater 4 to burn the cif file.

  3. bbb,

Read what is SVCD on the top left hand corner.

SVCDs only support specific framesizes (in fact, ONLY 480x480 for NTSC, though 352x480 is well supported too).

Your internet clips are DEFINITELY off spec. The framesize is completely off. Furthermore, I'm pretty sure that MPEG-1 is not supported in SVCDs.
