What's the easiest way to convert my DVDs to VCDs with subtitles? I can get most of the software like rippers, etc. except the Panasonic Plugin. I'm using Smartripper, DVD2AVI, then TMPEG, but this doesn't allow subtitles. For some reason, I can't frameserve with VirtualDUB. TMPEG freezes. Any suggestions?

1.Rip with Smart Ripper(select Movie as rip method)
2.Decode with Flask-under file open media select the largest IFO file- this will give you by default a choice of the movie subtitle. From Flask , frame serve to TMPGenc-from Options select output - link to AviSynth.
I have used this sequence without fail

  3. Hi alfa1234,
What FlaskMPEG version do you use for this process? I try the same route with Flask 0.6 but
it hangs when I start the Flask.

I found that with frameserving, it takes me roughly 12-14 hours for a full length movie, versus about 5-6 using DVD2AVI then TMPEGEnc.

Why the great increase in time required? BTW, I'm using a Athlon 1.4GHz.

  5. I have the same problem that Thai_tx. I try flask 0.6 and it hangs. In the version 0.594 after the option open DVD dont appears the window in wich you see the movie and the options, and when I quit the program, it produces an error on kernel32.dll... an eternal warning window... : (
I need the subs (my natural language is Spanish), so I need flask or the NEW DVDx that DO NOT run on my AMD....
I uses win me, and amd K6III@450MHZ.

  6. For easy one step programs you DVD2SVD is the best. You can d/load the newest software bundle from http://dvd2svcd.doom9.net and the guide for how to use it is at http://www.doom9.org (look under the guides). You'll also need to d/load CCE 2.5sp (there's a link to the demo at he doom9.org site). The demo puts a watermark/logo in the bottom right of the screen but i hear there's a crack to remove this

DVD2SVCD is a front end program that runs several programs for you:

    vStrip -> DVD2AVI -> AZID -> tooLame -> CCE -> pulldown -> bbMPEG -> VCDImager

I turn off 'creat imagers' and use TSVC to add chapters, menus, etc. Great program, plus CCE encodes MUCH faster than TMPGenc.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but this creates SVCDs. Most players (incl. mine) can't handle SVCDs, only VCD.

  8. DVD2SVCD only makes MPEG2 files, DVDx allows you to select MPEG1 or MPEG2, flask just sets everything up and then you frameserve to your encoder (eg. TMPGenc).

Take a look at the guide at http://www.flexion.org/video/DVDConv/DVD2AVI/index.html it'll show you how to encode a DVD rip with subtitles step by step, lots of screen captures/pics and text. LOTS of steps but a good end product.

  9. Ugggg! BBMpeg sux for MPEG1! Does very good for 2... TMPGEnc is superior for 1!

Well vested in the following: Pinnical DC-10+, TMPGEnc, AVI_IO, VirtualDub, Flask, BBMpeg, SmartRipper, DVD2AVI

  10. Flask is just a decoder. If you want to encode to MPEG you need an MPEG plugin. The default one is bbMPEG but by no means do you need to use it. The Panasonic MPEG Encoder is a good/best alternative.

For people with FlaskMPEG crashing, make sure you rip with SmartRipper on "File Mode" or use DVD Decrypter.

I'm not 100% sure, but I have a suspicion that some configurations of VFAPI can cause Flask to crash.
