  1. yes

i have a vcdripp, and the only thing i wanted was to put a damn subtitle, but, when i had put it in, the quality sucked

i used virtual dub as frameserver
    and encoded with tmpeg

    before encoding/after encoding : resolution 352*288
    before encoding/after encoding : bitrate 2145

can someone help me ? , plzzzzzz

    thanx, :P :P :P

What was your original? I get the impression that you've opened an MPEG encoded movie with VDub, adding subtitles, then frameserved it to TMPGEnc and reencoded it to MPEG. The bitrate is extremely high for a VCD, so even if subs will take some of that bitrate that ought not to matter in this case, but reencoding will always intruduce some degradation in quality. Can't say how much to expect, as I've never done it.

i dont get the question right,

    its a clean vcd ripp,

    resolution 352*288
    bitrate 2145

and i just wanted to put the subtitle in, not change anything, so i used the template in extra vcd bitrate 2146

but, must i lose quality, cause i want only pu a simple subtitle.

and, what is the best program to put a subtitle into a vcd ?

So, your original was an MPEG then, I take it (not AVI). Then you're pretty stuck. As I said, each encoding pass generates loss in quality, as MPEG is not a lossless encoding method. No matter what bitrate you try, the end result after an encoding pass will always be a bit worse than the original.
(Think of it as a photo copier where you take the copy and make another copy that you take to make another copy that you take to make another copy that you take to make another copy that you take to make another copy that you take to make another copy that you... (cut and past is fun ) Keep going long enough, and the copy will be unreadable.)

Best (simplest at least) way to get subtitles (again, depending on source of course) from a ripped DVD is to rip with DVDx and include the subtitles when ripping. When the deed is done, (rip without subtitles) you WILL get loss in quality if you try to add them later on.

If you want to play it on your standalone player and your player happens to be one of the few players that support SVCDs with SVCD subtitles, then chances are that you don't even have to re-encode in order to add subs ... You might be able to create a subbed XSVCD by:

    1) Demultiplex your file and re-multiplex as SVCD, preferably with bbmpg
    2) Convert your subtitles into Substation Alpha format, if not already
    3) Create bitmaps for every subtitle from your Substation alpha text file with Maestro SBT
    4) Multiplex the created subtitle bitmaps onto your mpg with Winsubmux
    5) Burn the submuxed mpg with VCDEasy
