  1. Anybody own/owned any of these two player? I am going to buy a DVD player in 4 days and would like any input on these two players. Specifically, I would like to know what problems you have encountered with these players. I will be doing mostly CD-R(W) (S)VCD and mp3 playback and I heard that these two players have superior video and audio quality (However, someone said that the JVC unit has a low audio. Any truth?). Thanks in advance.

  2. rdad,
I tested both players a little while ago. They are pretty good, but one thing for sure is the Hitachi DVP-415U can handle high bitrate more comfortable than the JVC 65GD. In another word the JVC stutters when playing xSVCD. IMO The audio quality of Hitachi is also slightly better than the JVC.

  3. Before I forget, the JVC 65GD is a progressive scan DVD player, but the Hitachi 415U is not.

  4. Thanks for the heads up, Iview.

Do you know if the samsung M301 is the exact same machine (internally) as the Hitachi? Someone said that on the DVD comparison page of this site. The BestBuy in my area has the M301 (I would have to get the Hitachi online). I would buy it and give it a test run if it is a good representation of the Hitachi.

  5. I don't know too much about Samsung, but I do know that the cheapest Hitachi DVD player 315U is made by Samsung, which doesn't play anything other than store bought discs. I don't know if the Samsung M301 is a rebadged Hitachi 315U or 415U. You probably have to check it out yourself with some of your discs.
