  1. Is it possible to copy/paste the content of a DVD disk to the HDD and then play the file from the hard disk? And can I do this without having a DVD-ROM? Can I read DVD discs with my CD-ROM?

    Sort of, NO

    NO

    NO

Now was there something else ?

    With a DVD drive..
Well the DVD VOB files (video/audio) would probably contain Macrovision, so you would need to use a program like "Smartripper" this will remove the protection, and at the same time it saves it to your hard drive.

Once it is saved, you can play the VOB files with something like PowerDVD, none of this is possible without a DVD drive... Sorry your CDR drive wont do

The good news is, once you have "Ripped" the VOB files, you can convert them to Mpeg 1 for use with VCD, and you can make a VCD on your CDR drive...

The bad news is, your Standalone DVD player may not play VCD's
