  1. If you are looking for a capture device to make a decent DVD, CHECK the resolution 1st! Most of the manufacters of "pocket rocket " capture devices will try and snow you with word like "real time" "make DVD" "Get this for $200 while others are paying more", ETC .

    The STANDARD resolution is:

720x480 for NTSC and 720x576 for PAL (PAL much sharper but can't play on US sets. )

I had purchase the PV-356 USB MPEG-2 Video CODEC/Tuner BOX.

The capture only look slightly better then the best VCD you would ever see. But not good enough to be DVD. I fine tuned my system but still crappy. That's when I check the resolution spec (written nowhere on the box but on the instuction sheet. It's top res was 704x480. I LOST 16 LINES of RES!!!

This is just a small tip from me.

    Good luck

704x480 accually is correct -- you dont see the extra 16 "lines" any way and those are not lines but pixels ...

if its 704 or 720 - the LINES of resolution are the same on your tv and what your dvd player spits out ..

the bad results are from something else ...

you should be able to get even good results from 1/2 D1 -

you ddint say what your source was but if you are capping off cable .. you would be lucky if they are sending much more than 270 lines .. same with VHS

Pal is not so much that its sharper due to the extra resolution (though that helps) but due to its better color ... - though many find the flickering drives them nuts ..
