  1. hi. im tring to rip 2 dvd's and im having serious problems! 1st problem is im trying to rip the movie dogma, ive succesfully unlocked the drive and have watched the dvd on the computer. now when i open smartripper it begins to read the files. and for dogma its a bunch of files! anyways i get a pop up screen before the initial file reader is finished. the pop up window says "project out of bounds" and smrtripper wont allow me to finish reading the files. is there anything i can do to allow smart ripper to expand and read more files? or is there no way around this?
2cd problem is star wars the phantom menace. i cannot get the "alien language" subtitles to rip. they are built into the movie, and ive ripped other movies that had built in subs w/ no problems. i dont know why i cannot get the subs to appear...has anyone had this problem before? is therea way to get the subs, or will i have to learn how to create my own subs? ive read around the site, and forums w/ no luck on finding my answers...if you can help me out id be ooooh so happy, ive been pulling my hair trying to figure this out.....i am still a newbie at all this so bare w/ me on this thanks in advance if you can help, or guide me to somewhere for help

  2. I'm rather puzzeled by your first question, do you have ASPI installed ? if not it may be the cause of Smart Ripper not working properly, you can try DVD Decryptor or CladMdec and if all else fails, get Sector Extractor.

Regarding your second question, i've ripped the Phantom Menace for a friend, and the subs were just there for the alien language, so I don't see what is it you are trying to rip ? are you trying to disable them ?

  5. Regarding the first problem, i've never said you didn't use correct settings, i've only asked if you have ASPI installed properly in your system.

Regarding the second problem, VOB files contain all the information in the movie, all the Audio Tracks, the Subtitles, and whatever else will be on them, I suggest you use a DVD Software Player to load the VOB's and see if you get the subs you are after.

  10. aspi is up and installed, and running properly......now where are my subs???uggg! ive tried w/ aspi reader enabled, and aspi disabled, no luck on getting the subs, i havnt retried dogma yet......does the aspi reading have anything to do w/ reading the subs???? when i open the phantom (subtitle) menace on my dvd software, i have to enable the alien subtext.setting being in the subtitle enabler, under subtilte english 2cd choice..being that it really truely isnt a built in subtitle, what special do i need to do either w/ settings, or substreams?
i am about ready to chuck this phantom menace out the window....damn..would it be easier to put in my own subs since im having a real bear of a time pulling them off the dvd.
oh by the way sefy thanks again for the aspi checker! i apreciate it!

  11. ASPI has nothing to do with subtitles, but it does help ripping the VOB's more accuratly, and should prevent the problems of having files staying locked in the reading.

Subtitles you can do easily with FlaskMPEG or DVDx, they both allow you to select the subtitles from the movie.

the VOB files contain: Audio Languages, Subtitles, Movie Angles

  12. did you find a soultion to star wars ep1? I've tried several things, best I could do is make them into a seperate sub title track and turn them on. They seemed a little off sync, but they worked that way. Other than that I tried forcing them on using ifoedit and dvdmaestro with no luck at all.

  13. i'vr successfully ripped dogma with no probs at all. i use dvddecrypter, dvd2avi and tmpgenc.

  14. how did you turn the subtitles on for the second languages stuff?

  15. i didnt. i just ripped the whole movie without the subs but i agree with sefy, if you want to play with subs, a prog like flask will be able to handle it

  16. Although a lot of people recommend using AVISynth + VirtualDub + Subrip + that subtitle virtualdub plugin (??name), I personally still think that using Flask 0.6 (makes sure you get the subtitle fixed version!!) is still the best way of making hard-encoded subtitles on S/VCDs.

The main benefit with Flask is that you don't have to stuff around with a lot of proggies and as long as you rip your DVD properly (i.e., use DVD Decrypter or Smartripper in File Mode), subtitles work flawlessly. You can even preview them before encoding to make sure that they are right.

Usually, the "alien" subs are listed as "English2" or just "English" but is usually the last sub option on the list.

For example, I recently ripped PAL R4 LOTR. This has subs for the Elvish parts. The subs on the disc were English (that is full English subs), Greek (full Greek subs), English (subs for the Elvish bits and what you want).

  17. hey sefy,

for the original dvd of star wars, were the subs hardcoded onto the video, or was it a separate subtitle track?

  18. EP1?

The alien subs were definitely overlay graphics.

  20. The part where ?Watto is talking to Anakin has a reasonable part in alien-talk.

Its not quite the same where you don't understand the dialog...

hey, can you explain the preview feature of flask? how do i activate it? i have older version of flask and would like to preview before i spend lotta time encoding.

    thnx.

  24. I don't remember the v0.5.x versions of Flask that well anymore, and in any case, I strongly recommend you trying the v0.6 "subtitle fixed" version of Flask. For experience, it is as stable as the older one, is slightly faster and a number of bugs of been fixed.

To "preview", just drag the little bar the represents the time of the movie to the point you want. Then press the "play" ( ">" ) button and watch. The subtitles will come up and you can make sure that the right subs are up.

BTW, I may have gotten the name wrong but "Watto" is that dude with wings who was Anakin's "owner" in Tattoine.

There is another part from memory where Anakin and Sebulba talk in alien-talk right after Jar Jar accidentally flings that "food thing" into Sebulba's plate/bowl.
