my daughter is mad on music/pop videos, so instead of taping them to watch i thought i would try to make a vcd which is more convenient .....(I have had success in making VCDs before, holidays, birthdays etc)...... no problemo I thought, so I recorded from the video and audio out of my satellite box to my digital camcorder...transferred to my pc through firewire .......used tmpgenc 2.57 to convert to mpeg..... made a vcd using dvd movie favtory......but the result when played on my standalone dvd player is good video but terrible sound.
I know the original recording from the satellite box is ok because if I play it back through the tv from the camera the sound is fine. I have tried tinkering with the audio settings on tmpgenc but most are greyed out. Is there anybody out there who has tried this, and may have an answer or suggestion to where I might be going wrong.
I would describe the sound as though it has had all the centre frequencies taken out...hope someone can help
    thank you ....Ken

Are your recordings mono ? is the DV capture compressing the audio (Cutting off frequencies)

You can also set TMPGEnc to increase the sound level, Setting > Audio > use audio edit

The recording is definately in stereo (taken from left and right audio outputs) input to camcrder is stereo as well....there is no way of altering the capture settings with the program i use (sonic foundry Video factory2)I will try another capture program and see what happens

  4. Common problem. TMPGEnc does a poor job of sample rate conversion. Your AVI you created by transferring the file over firewire has an audio sample rate of 48kHz. The target sample rate for compliant VCDs is 44.1kHz. According to others here at VCDHelp, it is real simple to get TMPGEnc to use some other software to make up for its shortcomings in the sound department. But, if you have Video Factory2, why are you wasting your time with TMPGEnc?

Oh, I don't know.. I use TMPGEnc to convert downloaded DVD AVI rip's, they are always 48Khz and always very low But TMPGEnc does a good job
